Complying with New FTC Pricing Guidelines

In March 2026, the FTC sent warning letters to 97 dealer groups regarding deceptive pricing practices, signaling stricter enforcement of "all-in" pricing requirements. Under the proposed guidelines, dealers must advertise the full price a customer will pay, excluding only government taxes, title, and registration fees. Mandatory doc fees — if charged to every buyer — must be included in the advertised price.

While these guidelines are not yet law, we recognize many of our dealer partners want to get ahead of compliance. This article explains how to align your Classic.com listings with the FTC's "all-in" pricing standard.

How Classic.com Displays Pricing

Classic.com listings show a single Asking Price for each vehicle. We do not currently support a line-item breakdown of fees on the listing page itself.

To comply with the FTC's all-in pricing approach, please ensure the price you send us reflects the full out-the-door price, excluding only government taxes, title, and registration.

How to Submit an All-In Price

If You Use an Inventory Management System (IMS)

If your listings come to us via an IMS feed, work with your IMS provider to map our Asking Price field to the all-in price (vehicle price plus mandatory doc fees and any other fees charged to every buyer). Most IMS platforms allow you to designate which price field is sent to third-party marketplaces — your IMS rep can direct our integration to pull from the correct field.

If You Use Manual Input

When creating or editing a listing manually:

  1. Enter the all-in price in the Asking Price field.
  2. Use the vehicle description to outline any breakdown you'd like buyers to see (e.g., vehicle price, doc fee, other mandatory charges).

Ongoing Updates

The FTC's guidance continues to evolve, and enforcement priorities may shift as the rule moves toward formal adoption. We are actively monitoring developments and will update this article and notify partners directly as anything changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to update my prices on Classic.com right now? No. The FTC guidelines are not yet law. We're providing this guidance for dealers who want to align with the proposed standard proactively.

Will Classic.com show a fee breakdown on the listing page? Not at this time. We display a single Asking Price.

My IMS sends multiple price fields. Which one should map to Asking Price? The field that reflects the full out-the-door price (vehicle + mandatory fees, excluding taxes/title/registration). Your IMS provider can help you confirm or adjust the mapping.

What happens if I don't update my listings? Your listings will remain active as-is. Classic.com is not enforcing the FTC guidelines on dealers — we're providing the option to comply for those who choose to.
