How to Write a Great Description for Your Vehicle Listing

A thoughtful description can increase interest, build trust, and ultimately help your car sell faster.

Your listings description helps potential buyers better understand your vehicle, its history, and any modifications that have been performed. By taking a few minutes to write a detailed and honest description, you're not only helping buyers make informed decisions, you’re also giving your vehicle the attention it deserves.

Here are some tips to help you craft a strong description:

Pro Tip: Bullet Points Work Great

Descriptions don’t always need to be long paragraphs. If writing out a full story isn’t your style, simple bullet points are just as effective... and often easier for buyers to skim through.

Start with the Basics

Our form will collect your key specs, but the first sentence of the description should cover:

  • Year, Make, Model and Model Trim

  • Mileage shown in the Odometer, and if it is known to be accurate or not

  • High-level condition of the car, especially if there are known issues that the new owner will need to address immediately

Include Vehicle History

Buyers want to know where the car has been:

  • How long you’ve owned the vehicle

  • Whether it's been in your family or passed through multiple owners

  • If the vehicle has a clean title or has been rebuilt/salvaged

  • Where the vehicle has lived (some buyers prefer dry-climate cars)

Highlight Rare or Unique Features

If your car has something special, don’t be shy about it:

  • Factory options or trim packages that are hard to find

  • Limited production numbers or specific VIN ranges

  • Matching-numbers drivetrain, original paint, or rare color combos

Note Any Modifications or Upgrades

Be sure to mention any changes from stock condition:

  • Aftermarket wheels, suspension, or exhaust

  • Engine swaps or performance upgrades

  • Cosmetic modifications like paint changes or custom interiors

Be Honest About Known Flaws

Full transparency builds trust with buyers:

  • Any rust, dents, or paint issues

  • Mechanical quirks or things that need attention

  • Past accidents or insurance claims

Share Service & Maintenance Info

Buyers appreciate knowing how well the car has been cared for:

  • Recent services (timing belt, clutch, brakes, etc.)

  • Major repairs or rebuilds

  • Whether you have service records or receipts
