Tips for Selling Your Car on CLASSIC.COM

Maximize your listing's visibility and sell with confidence

At CLASSIC.COM, we’re here to help private sellers connect with serious buyers. A few simple steps can go a long way in helping you stand out and close a successful sale. Here are our top tips for managing your listing:

1. Build a Strong Photo Gallery

Good photos are one of the biggest drivers of buyer interest. Be sure to include clear, well-lit images of the exterior, interior, engine bay, undercarriage, and any flaws or details worth highlighting.

2. Write a Detailed, Honest Description

A well-written description builds trust and helps buyers feel informed. Include the vehicle’s history, condition, known issues, recent service, and any modifications or upgrades.

3. Price Your Listing with Real-time Comps

In your Listing Manager, you'll see a live feed of comparable sales to help you price your vehicle competitively. These comps are a valuable reference for setting your asking price – and just as useful when sharing with buyers to back up your pricing.

Because we track listings from over 400 sources (including dealers, auctions, and other private sellers) your comps stay current as new vehicles enter the market and others sell. No need to hunt for data elsewhere, we’ve got it covered for you.

4. Share Your Listing Beyond CLASSIC.COM

Once your listing is live on CLASSIC.COM, it can serve as the central reference point when promoting your car on local classifieds, social media, or marque-specific forums. The more exposure you get, the better your chances of finding the right buyer.

  • Use Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to tap into local interest
  • Share your listing on marque-specific forums or enthusiast communities (like FerrariChat, Rennlist, IH8MUD or AlfaBB) to reach passionate, informed buyers

No matter where you promote it, always direct interested buyers back to your listing on CLASSIC.COM. This gives them access to your full photo gallery, your detailed write-up, and the market data that supports your asking price – all in one place.

5. Watch Out for Common Scams

Unfortunately, vehicle listings can attract scammers. Be wary of suspicious buyers, requests to communicate off-platform, or offers that seem too good to be true.

6. Use a Secure Payment Method

For everyone’s protection, avoid personal checks or non-verifiable methods. Services like KeySavvy or DealNow are designed to securely handle vehicle transactions. Bank transfers and escrow services are also good options.

7. Understand Shipping Logistics

Buyers are typically responsible for arranging transport, but being flexible can help speed things along. If you’re helping coordinate shipping, we’ve compiled a list of reliable services.
